Description

The Opti-Behavior – Self-Hosted Heatmaps, Session Recordings, Funnels, A/B Testing & Smart Insights plugin for WordPress is vulnerable to Stored DOM-Based Cross-Site Scripting via the 'targetUrl' parameter in all versions up to, and including, 1.9.2.1 due to insufficient input sanitization and output escaping. This makes it possible for unauthenticated attackers to inject arbitrary web scripts in pages that will execute whenever a user accesses an injected page. The ingest endpoint is gated only by a nonce that is publicly emitted to every anonymous visitor on tracked pages via optiBehaviorHeatmapConfig.nonce, meaning no account or authentication of any kind is required to write the malicious payload.

The injected scripts execute when users access the compromised page.

Detection Guidance

This vulnerability involves Stored DOM-Based Cross-Site Scripting via the 'targetUrl' parameter in the Opti-Behavior WordPress plugin. Detection requires checking for suspicious payloads in stored data or monitoring network traffic for injected scripts targeting the 'targetUrl' parameter.

Impact Analysis

An attacker could steal user sessions, redirect to malicious sites, or perform actions on behalf of users. Since no authentication is required to exploit this, any visitor to a site using the vulnerable plugin could be affected.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could lead to unauthorized data access or modification, violating GDPR's data protection requirements and HIPAA's safeguards for protected health information. Organizations using this plugin may face compliance violations if user data is compromised.

Mitigation Strategies
