Executive Summary

This is a SQL injection vulnerability in the Modern Events Calendar Lite and Pro WordPress plugins before version 7.37.0. It occurs because the plugins do not properly sanitize and escape a parameter used in SQL statements. This allows authenticated users with minimal privileges, such as Subscribers, to inject malicious SQL code.

Detection Guidance

To detect this vulnerability, check the installed version of the Modern Events Calendar Lite or Pro plugin. If the version is below 7.37.0, the system is vulnerable. Use WordPress admin panel or run SQL queries to verify plugin versions across sites.

Impact Analysis

An attacker could exploit this to manipulate the database, steal sensitive data, or take control of the WordPress site. Since it requires only Subscriber-level access, the risk is higher as more users may have this role.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could lead to unauthorized access or exposure of personal data, violating GDPR and HIPAA requirements for data protection and security. Organizations may face legal penalties and reputational damage if exploited.

Mitigation Strategies

Immediately update the Modern Events Calendar Lite or Pro plugin to version 7.37.0 or later. If updating is not possible, consider disabling the plugin temporarily until an update can be applied.
