Description

The Tourfic – AI Powered Travel Booking, Hotel Booking & Car Rental plugin for WordPress is vulnerable to Stored Cross-Site Scripting via Comment Content via unfiltered_html Grant to Customer Role in all versions up to, and including, 3.0.1 due to insufficient input sanitization and output escaping. This makes it possible for authenticated attackers, with subscriber-level access and above, to inject arbitrary web scripts in pages that will execute whenever a user accesses an injected page. This requires WooCommerce to be active, but since the customer role is freely self-registerable without admin approval, exploitation is effectively possible by any unauthenticated visitor who registers a WooCommerce account. While the plugin's own listing-page templates sanitize output with wp_kses_post(), the stored payload is returned unsanitized via the unauthenticated GET /wp-json/wp/v2/comments REST endpoint (content.rendered) and post/comment RSS feeds, exposing any headless client, feed reader, or third-party widget that renders comment content.

Executive Summary

This is a Stored Cross-Site Scripting (XSS) vulnerability in the Tourfic WordPress plugin. It allows attackers with subscriber-level access or higher to inject malicious scripts into comment content. The vulnerability exists due to insufficient input sanitization and output escaping. The stored payload can be retrieved unsanitized via the WordPress REST API or RSS feeds, affecting any system that renders comment content.

Detection Guidance

Check for suspicious comments in WordPress using the REST API endpoint /wp-json/wp/v2/comments with content.rendered parameter. Inspect post/comment RSS feeds for unsanitized scripts. Use Wordfence or similar security plugins to scan for stored XSS payloads in comments.

Impact Analysis

An attacker could inject malicious scripts into comments that execute when users view affected pages. This could lead to theft of cookies, session hijacking, or defacement of your website. Since WooCommerce customer accounts are self-registerable, even unauthenticated visitors could exploit this by creating an account.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could lead to unauthorized access to user data, violating GDPR's data protection requirements. For HIPAA, it may expose protected health information if comments contain such data. Both regulations require protection against unauthorized data access and breaches.

Mitigation Strategies

Update the Tourfic plugin to the latest version beyond 3.0.1. Disable comment functionality if not needed. Implement strict input validation for comment content. Use security plugins to block malicious scripts. Monitor for unauthorized script injections in comments.
