Description

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: iio: light: rohm-bu27034: Fix infinite delay on error When reading an integration-time fails, the code will use error code to compute the sleep time. Fix this by using the smallest integration time as a default if reading fails.

Executive Summary

This vulnerability in the Linux kernel involves a driver for ROHM BU27034 light sensors. When reading integration time fails, the code incorrectly uses the error code to calculate a sleep delay, potentially causing an infinite delay. The fix ensures the smallest integration time is used as a default if reading fails.

Detection Guidance

This vulnerability is specific to the Linux kernel's IIO light sensor subsystem (rohm-bu27034 driver). Detection requires checking kernel logs for errors related to the bu27034 driver or integration-time read failures in light sensors.

Impact Analysis

This vulnerability may cause delays or hangs in light sensor readings, potentially disrupting applications relying on timely sensor data. It could lead to system unresponsiveness if the error handling triggers prolonged delays.

Mitigation Strategies

Update the Linux kernel to a patched version that includes the fix for CVE-2026-98661. Monitor kernel logs for bu27034 driver errors as a sign of potential issues.
