Executive Summary

This vulnerability is an uncontrolled resource consumption issue in Fireware OS's diagnostic tasks feature. A low-privileged, authenticated user can repeatedly start and abort a specially crafted diagnostic task through the web UI, causing a denial of service for the system's diagnostic tools.

Detection Guidance

Monitor for unusual diagnostic task activity in Fireware OS logs. Check for repeated start/abort cycles of diagnostic tasks via the web UI. Inspect system resource usage for spikes during diagnostic operations.

Impact Analysis

This vulnerability can cause the diagnostic tools on your Fireware OS system to become unavailable, disrupting troubleshooting and monitoring capabilities. It may lead to system instability or reduced performance during an attack.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could indirectly impact compliance with standards like GDPR or HIPAA by disrupting the availability of diagnostic tools used for monitoring and maintaining system security and data integrity. A denial of service on diagnostic tools may hinder incident response and auditing capabilities, which are critical for compliance.

Mitigation Strategies

Upgrade Fireware OS to versions 2026.3.2, 2026.2.3, 12.12.3, or 12.5.21. Restrict user access to diagnostic tools to prevent unauthorized task initiation. Monitor network traffic for suspicious activity targeting diagnostic features.
