Executive Summary

NVIDIA GPU Display Driver for Windows has a flaw in the display driver DIAG escape handler. A local unprivileged attacker can trigger an integer overflow, leading to an out-of-bounds write. This may cause denial of service or allow code execution.

Detection Guidance

This vulnerability involves an integer overflow and out-of-bounds write in NVIDIA GPU Display Driver's DIAG escape handler. Detection requires checking driver versions and monitoring for unusual system behavior. Use NVIDIA's official tools like NVIDIA Driver Manager or command-line tools such as 'nvidia-smi' to verify driver versions. Look for versions older than the patched release.

Impact Analysis

If exploited, this vulnerability could allow an attacker to crash your system (denial of service) or take control of it (code execution). Since it requires local access, physical or network access to the system is needed.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could potentially impact compliance with GDPR and HIPAA by enabling unauthorized code execution or denial of service on systems handling sensitive data. Local attackers gaining elevated privileges may lead to data breaches or system disruptions, violating confidentiality and availability requirements under these regulations.

Mitigation Strategies

Update the NVIDIA GPU Display Driver for Windows to the latest version provided by NVIDIA to address the integer overflow and out-of-bounds write vulnerability in the display driver DIAG escape handler.
