Executive Summary

This vulnerability involves a file upload endpoint in a TMS system that does not properly restrict file types on the server side. An attacker can exploit this to upload and execute malicious PHP files on the web server, potentially gaining control over the system.

Detection Guidance

Check web server access logs for unusual PHP file uploads or POST requests to TMS endpoints. Look for files with .php extensions in upload directories. Use tools like Wireshark to monitor network traffic for suspicious file transfers.

Impact Analysis

This vulnerability allows attackers to upload and execute arbitrary PHP files, which could lead to unauthorized access, data theft, or complete system compromise. It may also enable further attacks like malware distribution or defacement of the website.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability allows arbitrary PHP file uploads and execution, which could lead to unauthorized data access, modification, or exfiltration. Such breaches typically violate GDPR's data protection requirements and HIPAA's safeguards for protected health information, potentially resulting in non-compliance penalties.

Mitigation Strategies

Disable file uploads to the TMS endpoint if not required. Implement strict server-side file type validation to block PHP files. Restrict write permissions on web directories. Update server software and review access controls.
