Executive Summary

This is a server-side request forgery (SSRF) vulnerability in the API endpoint of HPE Networking Instant ON APs. It allows an authenticated remote attacker with high privileges to forge requests on the server, potentially leading to execution of arbitrary commands as a privileged user on the underlying operating system.

Detection Guidance

This vulnerability requires detecting SSRF in HPE Networking Instant ON APs. Check for unusual outbound requests from the API endpoint, unexpected command execution logs, or privileged user activity. Monitor network traffic for internal system access attempts from the AP interface.

Impact Analysis

An attacker could exploit this to run unauthorized commands on your system, potentially gaining control over the device or accessing sensitive data. This could lead to data breaches, system compromise, or disruption of network services.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could potentially impact compliance with GDPR and HIPAA by allowing an attacker to execute arbitrary commands on the underlying system. This may lead to unauthorized access to sensitive data, violating confidentiality and integrity requirements under these regulations.

Mitigation Strategies

Apply the latest security patches provided by HPE for the Instant ON APs to address the SSRF vulnerability. Ensure API access is restricted to authorized users only and monitor network traffic for unusual activity.
