Executive Summary

This is an out-of-bounds write vulnerability in the GPU component of Google Chrome on Android. It allows a remote attacker who has already compromised the renderer process to execute arbitrary code outside the browser's sandbox by tricking a user into visiting a specially crafted HTML page.

Detection Guidance

This vulnerability is specific to Google Chrome on Android versions prior to 154.0.8037.57. Detection involves checking the installed Chrome version. On Android, go to Chrome settings > About Chrome to verify the version. If the version is below 154.0.8037.57, the system is vulnerable.

Impact Analysis

If exploited, this vulnerability could allow an attacker to run malicious code on your device, potentially stealing data, installing malware, or taking control of your system. Since it bypasses the sandbox, it has elevated privileges compared to normal browser exploits.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability allows remote code execution outside the sandbox via a crafted HTML page, which could lead to unauthorized access to sensitive data. Such access may violate GDPR's data protection requirements and HIPAA's safeguards for protected health information if exploited.

Mitigation Strategies

Update Google Chrome on Android to version 154.0.8037.57 or later immediately. This can be done via the Google Play Store. Avoid visiting untrusted websites until the update is applied. If automatic updates are disabled, manually update Chrome.
