Executive Summary

This vulnerability involves incorrect authorization in BrowserTag within Google Chrome before version 154.0.8037.57. A remote attacker who already compromised the renderer process could bypass web origin policy by using a specially crafted HTML page.

Detection Guidance

This vulnerability is specific to Google Chrome versions prior to 154.0.8037.57. To detect it, check your Chrome version by running chrome://version/ in the browser address bar. If your version is below 154.0.8037.57, the system is vulnerable.

Impact Analysis

If you use an affected Chrome version, an attacker who gains control of the renderer process could access data from other websites or perform actions on your behalf across different origins, violating same-origin policy.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability allows a remote attacker to bypass web origin policy, which could lead to unauthorized access to sensitive data. This may impact compliance with GDPR (data protection) and HIPAA (health data privacy) by enabling unauthorized data exposure or modification.

Mitigation Strategies

Update Google Chrome to version 154.0.8037.57 or later to address the incorrect authorization issue in BrowserTag.
