Executive Summary

This vulnerability affects C97net qEngine CMS through 6.0.0, Kemana Directory through 1.5.6, and Cart Engine through 3.0.0. It allows unauthenticated attackers to access database backups stored in the web-accessible /admin/backup directory. Attackers can either list directory contents or guess date-based filenames like 'Full Backup YYYYMMDD.sql' to download sensitive data including user records and administrator password hashes.

Detection Guidance

Check if the /admin/backup directory is accessible by attempting to list its contents using a web browser or tools like curl or wget. Try accessing files with predictable names like 'Full Backup 20231028.sql' or 'Full Backup 20231028.gz' by guessing date-based filenames.

Impact Analysis

Unauthenticated attackers can exploit this to download database backups containing sensitive information such as user records and administrator password hashes. This could lead to unauthorized access to systems, data breaches, identity theft, or further attacks using exposed credentials.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability likely violates compliance requirements under GDPR and HIPAA due to unauthorized access to personal and sensitive data. It could result in data breaches, leading to regulatory fines, legal liabilities, and reputational damage for organizations handling protected information.

Mitigation Strategies

Immediately restrict access to the /admin/backup directory by implementing proper authentication and authorization controls. Remove or rename the directory if it is not required. Ensure all sensitive database backups are stored outside the web root and apply the latest patches for qEngine CMS, Kemana Directory, and Cart Engine.
