Executive Summary

This is a NULL pointer dereference vulnerability in Qsync Central. If an attacker gains a user account, they can exploit it to cause a denial-of-service (DoS) attack by crashing the system.

Detection Guidance

Detection involves checking the Qsync Central version. If your version is below 5.0.0.4, the system is vulnerable. Use commands like 'qsync-central --version' or check the installed package version via your system's package manager.

Impact Analysis

An attacker with a user account could crash Qsync Central, disrupting services and causing downtime. Users may experience service unavailability until the system is restarted or patched.

Compliance Impact

The vulnerability allows a remote attacker with a user account to cause a denial-of-service condition via NULL pointer dereference. This could disrupt availability of services, potentially impacting compliance with standards requiring data availability like HIPAA for healthcare data or GDPR for service continuity. However, the provided CVE details do not explicitly link this vulnerability to specific compliance impacts.

Mitigation Strategies

Upgrade Qsync Central to version 5.0.0.4 or later immediately. Remove or restrict user accounts with access to Qsync Central until the update is applied to prevent exploitation.
