Executive Summary

This vulnerability is a buffer copy without checking the size of input in Qsync Central. If a remote attacker gains a user account, they can exploit it to modify memory or crash processes.

Detection Guidance

This vulnerability requires a user account to exploit, so detection should focus on monitoring for unusual memory modifications or process crashes in Qsync Central versions before 5.0.0.4. Check the installed version of Qsync Central using the QNAP admin interface or command line. If the version is below 5.0.0.4, the system is vulnerable.

Impact Analysis

An attacker with a user account could exploit this to alter memory or cause system crashes, potentially disrupting services or leading to unauthorized changes.

Compliance Impact

The provided CVE data does not specify any direct impact on compliance with standards like GDPR or HIPAA. The vulnerability allows a remote attacker with user access to modify memory or crash processes, but no details are given about data exposure, confidentiality, or integrity risks that would typically affect such compliance.

Mitigation Strategies

Update Qsync Central to version 5.0.0.4 or later to address the vulnerability. Ensure only trusted users have access to accounts to prevent remote exploitation.
