Executive Summary

This vulnerability is a path traversal issue in Palo Alto Networks Checkov by Prisma Cloud. It allows an unauthenticated local user to write files to arbitrary locations on the scanning filesystem.

Detection Guidance

Detection requires checking for unauthorized file writes in Checkov by Prisma Cloud. Monitor filesystem logs for unexpected file creation in arbitrary locations. Review Checkov scan logs for path traversal attempts. No specific commands are provided in the context.

Impact Analysis

An attacker could exploit this to overwrite critical system files, leading to potential denial of service, data corruption, or unauthorized code execution on the affected system.

Compliance Impact

The vulnerability allows unauthenticated local users to write files to arbitrary locations on the scanning filesystem, which could lead to unauthorized data access or modification. This may violate compliance requirements for GDPR (data integrity and confidentiality) and HIPAA (protected health information security).

Mitigation Strategies

Update Checkov by Prisma Cloud to the latest version to address the path traversal vulnerability. Remove local user access if not required and monitor filesystem writes for suspicious activity.
