Executive Summary

This vulnerability is a denial of service (DoS) issue in Palo Alto Networks PAN-OS software. An authenticated user with a read-only administrator role can trigger a DoS condition by sending a specially crafted API request.

Detection Guidance

Monitor for unusual API request patterns or failed requests from authenticated read-only administrators. Check system logs for DoS conditions or service disruptions in PAN-OS.

Impact Analysis

The impact is limited to causing a temporary disruption of services if an attacker exploits this flaw. The risk is reduced if management access is restricted to trusted internal IP addresses as recommended.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability poses a limited compliance risk because it requires an authenticated user with read-only access to exploit. The impact is a denial of service, which is mitigated by restricting management interface access to trusted internal IPs as per best practices.

Mitigation Strategies

Restrict management web interface access to trusted internal IP addresses. Ensure only authorized users have access and review administrator roles for unnecessary privileges.
