Executive Summary

This is a stored Cross-Site Scripting (XSS) vulnerability in Adobe Commerce. An attacker can inject malicious scripts into vulnerable form fields. When a victim visits the affected page, the malicious JavaScript executes in their browser, potentially allowing the attacker to gain control over the victim's account or session.

Detection Guidance

Detecting this stored XSS vulnerability requires manual inspection of input fields in Adobe Commerce forms. Check form fields like checkout, user profile, or product review sections for unusual input handling. Look for fields that do not properly sanitize user input or reflect it in the page output without encoding.

Impact Analysis

This vulnerability could allow attackers to steal sensitive data like session cookies, login credentials, or personal information. It may also enable attackers to perform actions on behalf of the victim, such as modifying account settings or making unauthorized purchases.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could lead to unauthorized access to personal data, violating GDPR and HIPAA requirements. Organizations may face legal penalties, reputational damage, and loss of customer trust if exploited.

Mitigation Strategies

Apply the latest security patches from Adobe immediately. Enable strict input validation and output encoding for all user-supplied data. Implement Content Security Policy (CSP) headers to mitigate the impact of any injected scripts. Review and restrict user roles with elevated permissions.
