Executive Summary

This is a post-authentication OS Command Injection vulnerability in SonicWall Network Security Manager (NSM) on-prem. It allows a remote authenticated attacker to execute arbitrary OS commands, potentially leading to remote code execution under specific conditions.

Detection Guidance

Detection requires checking for unauthorized command execution attempts in logs or network traffic. Review SonicWall NSM logs for suspicious post-authentication commands. Monitor for unexpected child processes spawned by NSM services. Check for unusual network connections initiated by the NSM application.

Impact Analysis

If exploited, this vulnerability could allow an attacker to run unauthorized commands on the affected system, potentially gaining control over the device or network. This may lead to data breaches, system compromise, or further network infiltration.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could lead to unauthorized remote code execution, potentially exposing sensitive data. This may violate compliance requirements under GDPR (data protection) and HIPAA (healthcare data security) by enabling unauthorized access to personal or protected health information.

Mitigation Strategies

Apply the latest security patches or updates provided by SonicWall for Network Security Manager (NSM) to address the OS command injection vulnerability. Ensure all authentication mechanisms are secure and monitor for unusual command execution activities.
