Executive Summary

This vulnerability is a missing input validation flaw in the Fileserver upload API of Arista Networks CloudVision Portal. An authenticated attacker with file upload privileges can exploit it to perform stored cross-site scripting (XSS). This allows the attacker to inject malicious scripts that are stored on the server and executed when other users access the affected pages.

Detection Guidance

Detection requires monitoring for malicious file uploads and XSS payloads in the Fileserver upload API. Check server logs for unusual file uploads, especially those containing JavaScript or HTML content. Inspect user-uploaded files for embedded scripts or unexpected file types. Review session hijacking attempts or unauthorized privilege escalations in CloudVision Portal logs.

Impact Analysis

If exploited, this vulnerability could allow an attacker to hijack another user's web session, potentially gaining full access to their account and administrative permissions. This could lead to unauthorized data access, modification, or deletion within the CloudVision Portal.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could lead to unauthorized access to sensitive data, which may violate compliance requirements such as GDPR (data protection) and HIPAA (health information privacy). Organizations using CloudVision Portal may face legal and regulatory penalties if this flaw is exploited.

Mitigation Strategies

Implement strict input validation for file uploads in the CloudVision Portal API. Ensure all uploaded files are scanned for malicious content and restrict file types to those explicitly required. Review and update user permissions to limit file upload privileges to trusted accounts only.
