Executive Summary

The WPCode WordPress plugin before version 2.4.0 has a flaw where it does not verify if a request is for the login screen before disabling snippets. This allows unauthenticated visitors to bypass the plugin's snippet suppression mechanism and disable all automatically inserted snippets for their own requests.

Detection Guidance

Check the installed version of the WPCode plugin. If it is between 2.0.0 and 2.3.9, the system is vulnerable. Use WordPress admin panel or run: wp plugin list | grep wpcode in the WordPress directory.

Impact Analysis

Unauthenticated attackers could exploit this to disable security-related snippets on your WordPress site, potentially exposing sensitive data or weakening security measures. This could lead to unauthorized access or other malicious activities.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could lead to non-compliance with GDPR or HIPAA if it results in unauthorized access to personal or health data due to disabled security snippets. Organizations may face legal penalties or reputational damage.

Mitigation Strategies

Update the WPCode plugin to version 2.4.0 or later immediately. Disable the plugin temporarily if an update is not immediately possible. Monitor for unauthorized snippet modifications.
