Executive Summary

This is a NULL Pointer Dereference vulnerability in Juniper Networks Junos OS and Junos OS Evolved. It affects the na-grpcd process and allows an unauthenticated attacker with access to the chassis-internal network to cause a denial of service by sending a specific network message.

Detection Guidance

Detection requires monitoring for crashes or instability in the na-grpcd process on Juniper devices. Check system logs for segmentation faults or process failures in Junos OS/Junos OS Evolved. Use commands like 'show system processes extensive' or 'show log messages' to identify abnormal terminations.

Impact Analysis

The vulnerability can lead to a denial of service, causing the affected system to crash or become unresponsive. This disrupts network operations and may result in service outages for users relying on the compromised system.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability causes a denial of service via a NULL pointer dereference in the na-grpcd process, which could disrupt network services. Such disruptions may impact data availability, potentially violating compliance requirements for GDPR (data availability) and HIPAA (system availability for protected health information).

Mitigation Strategies

Apply the latest Junos OS or Junos OS Evolved patches from Juniper Networks. Restrict access to the chassis-internal network to trusted users only. Monitor network traffic for suspicious messages targeting the na-grpcd process.
