Executive Summary

This vulnerability is an OS Command Injection flaw in the TACACS authentication system of Juniper Networks Junos OS Evolved. It allows a low-privileged user authenticated via TACACS+ to execute commands with root privileges when periodic TACACS+ authorization-refresh is enabled.

Detection Guidance

Detecting this vulnerability requires checking if periodic TACACS+ authorization-refresh is enabled on Juniper Networks Junos OS Evolved systems. Review TACACS+ configuration files for the 'authorization-refresh' setting. Monitor logs for unusual command execution by low-privileged users during refresh intervals.

Impact Analysis

An attacker could gain full control over the affected system, allowing them to execute arbitrary commands as root. This could lead to unauthorized access, data theft, system compromise, or disruption of services.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could lead to unauthorized access or data breaches, which may violate compliance requirements under GDPR, HIPAA, or other regulations. Organizations may face legal penalties, reputational damage, and loss of trust due to non-compliance.
