Executive Summary

This is a NULL Pointer Dereference vulnerability in Juniper Networks Junos OS and Junos OS Evolved. It exists in the rpd routing daemon and can be triggered by an adjacent unauthenticated attacker sending a specially crafted RSVP Path message. This causes the routing daemon to crash, leading to a denial of service.

Impact Analysis

The vulnerability allows an attacker to crash the routing daemon, disrupting network routing and causing a denial of service. This can lead to network outages, loss of connectivity, and potential disruption of critical services relying on the routing infrastructure.

Compliance Impact

The vulnerability causes a denial of service by crashing the routing daemon via an RSVP Path message, which could disrupt network services. This may impact compliance with standards like GDPR or HIPAA by failing to maintain availability of critical systems, potentially leading to data processing interruptions or security breaches.

Mitigation Strategies

Apply the latest Junos OS or Junos OS Evolved security patches from Juniper Networks to address the NULL Pointer Dereference in the rpd routing daemon. Monitor Juniper's security advisories for updates and consider disabling RSVP if not required.
