Executive Summary

This vulnerability is a Reachable Assertion issue in Juniper Networks Junos OS and Junos OS Evolved routing protocol daemon (rpd). It allows an unauthenticated adjacent attacker to cause a denial of service by sending a specific RSVP packet.

Detection Guidance

This vulnerability can be detected by monitoring for RSVP packet anomalies in Juniper Junos OS and Junos OS Evolved systems. Check for crashes or reboots in the routing protocol daemon (rpd) after receiving specific RSVP packets. Use commands like 'show system processes extensive' to monitor rpd status and 'show log messages' to look for assertion failures or crashes.

Impact Analysis

An attacker could exploit this to disrupt network services by causing the routing protocol daemon to crash, leading to service outages or degraded performance in affected Juniper devices.

Compliance Impact

The vulnerability causes a denial of service via a specific RSVP packet, which could disrupt network services. This may impact compliance with standards like GDPR or HIPAA by compromising availability of critical systems, potentially leading to data processing interruptions or breaches of service level agreements.

Mitigation Strategies

Apply the latest Junos OS or Junos OS Evolved security patches from Juniper Networks to address the Reachable Assertion vulnerability in the routing protocol daemon (rpd).
