Command Injection in Juniper Networks Junos OS CLI

Vulnerability report for CVE-2026-102079, including description, CVSS score, EPSS score, affected products, exploitability, helpful resources, and attack-flow context.

Publication date: 2026-10-14

Last updated on: 2026-10-15

Assigner: Juniper Networks, Inc.

Description

An OS command injection vulnerability in the CLI of Juniper Networks Junos OS allows a local, low privileged attacker to take complete control of the device. A specific 'request csds' command doesn't sanitize user provided input so that it can be interpreted as a command. This allows unintended command execution with root privileges, which can lead to unauthorized system access or modification. This issue affects Junos OS: * 24.4 versions before 24.4R2-S4; * 25.2 versions before 25.2R2-S1; * 25.4 versions before 25.4R1-S3; This issue does not affect Junos OS releases before 24.4R1.

Executive Summary

This is an OS command injection vulnerability in the CLI of Juniper Networks Junos OS. A local attacker with low privileges can exploit a specific 'request csds' command by providing unsanitized input that gets interpreted as a system command. This leads to unintended command execution with root privileges, allowing full control of the device.

Detection Guidance

To detect this vulnerability, check the Junos OS version on your device. Run 'show version' in the CLI to verify if your system is running a vulnerable release (before 24.4R2-S4, 25.2R2-S1, or 25.4R1-S3).

Additionally, review command logs for suspicious 'request csds' usage with unexpected input patterns that may indicate exploitation attempts.

Impact Analysis

An attacker could gain unauthorized access to the device, modify system configurations, or execute arbitrary commands with root privileges. This could result in complete compromise of the Junos OS device, leading to data theft, service disruption, or further network infiltration.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability allows unauthorized system access or modification with root privileges, which could lead to data breaches or unauthorized data exposure. Such incidents may violate compliance requirements under GDPR (data protection) and HIPAA (healthcare data security) due to unauthorized access or loss of sensitive information.

Mitigation Strategies

Immediately upgrade to a patched Junos OS version (24.4R2-S4 or later, 25.2R2-S1 or later, or 25.4R1-S3 or later).

Restrict access to the CLI for low-privileged users until the patch is applied. Monitor for unauthorized system changes or access.
