Vulnerability report for CVE-2026-102164, including description, CVSS score, EPSS score, affected products, exploitability, helpful resources, and attack-flow context.

Publication date: 2026-10-06

Last updated on: 2026-10-07

Assigner: Arista Networks, Inc.

Description

On affected Arista access points configured with VXLAN tunnelling and L2-proxy (a specific configuration unique to the VESPA use-case), a wireless client associated to the tunnelled SSID can send a crafted packet, causing the access point to reveal memory contents in network traffic. No write primitive or remote code execution is possible.

Executive Summary

This vulnerability affects Arista access points configured with VXLAN tunnelling and L2-proxy. A wireless client on a tunnelled SSID can send a crafted packet that causes the access point to leak memory contents in network traffic. It does not allow writing to memory or remote code execution.

Detection Guidance

This vulnerability requires a specific configuration (VXLAN tunnelling with L2-proxy on Arista access points in VESPA use-case). Detection would involve checking access point configurations for these settings and monitoring network traffic for unusual memory content exposure. No specific commands are provided in the context.

Impact Analysis

An attacker could exploit this to read sensitive memory contents from affected Arista access points, potentially exposing confidential data transmitted through the device. However, no direct code execution or data modification is possible.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could lead to unauthorized data exposure, which may violate GDPR (data confidentiality) or HIPAA (protected health information). Organizations must assess risk and apply mitigations to maintain compliance.

Mitigation Strategies

Disable VXLAN tunnelling and L2-proxy on affected Arista access points if not required. Apply any available patches or updates from Arista. Monitor network traffic for signs of memory content exposure.
