Description

In Omada Controller MSP mode, the user-confirmation endpoint fails to enforce the required permission check. An authenticated user can supply a caller-controlled Identifier parameter to validate credentials for another account and receive responses that distinguish nonexistent users, invalid passwords, and successful authentication.Β  Successful exploitation may allow user enumeration, credential verification, and unauthorized access to MSP resources or compromise of targeted accounts.

Executive Summary

In Omada Controller MSP mode, the user-confirmation endpoint does not perform required permission checks. An authenticated user can manipulate the Identifier parameter to validate credentials for other accounts and receive responses that reveal whether users exist, if passwords are invalid, or if authentication succeeds.

Detection Guidance

This vulnerability involves an authentication bypass in Omada Controller MSP mode. Detection requires checking for unusual authentication responses or user enumeration attempts. Monitor logs for repeated failed login attempts with varying usernames, as the flaw allows distinguishing between nonexistent users, invalid passwords, and successful logins.

Impact Analysis

This vulnerability allows user enumeration, credential verification, and potential unauthorized access to MSP resources or compromise of targeted accounts. Attackers could exploit it to gather valid usernames, test passwords, and gain unauthorized access.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could lead to unauthorized access to user accounts and resources, which may violate data protection requirements under GDPR and HIPAA. Specifically, user enumeration and credential verification risks could expose personal or sensitive health data, leading to non-compliance with confidentiality and access control provisions.

Mitigation Strategies

Update Omada Controller to the latest patched version immediately. Restrict access to the user-confirmation endpoint by implementing network-level controls or firewall rules. Monitor authentication logs for suspicious activity or repeated failed login attempts.
