Executive Summary

The eaSYNC Booking WordPress plugin before version 1.3.31 has a vulnerability where it lacks authorization and nonce checks on certain AJAX actions related to booking cancellations. This allows unauthenticated users to create booking cancellation requests, trigger booking notification emails, and modify the content of those emails without proper authentication.

Detection Guidance

Check if your WordPress site uses the eaSYNC Booking plugin version prior to 1.3.31. Inspect network traffic for unauthorized AJAX requests to booking cancellation endpoints. Look for unexpected email notifications or modifications to email content triggered by unknown sources.

Impact Analysis

Unauthenticated attackers could exploit this to send unauthorized booking cancellation requests, spam users with fake notifications, or alter the content of legitimate emails sent by the site. This could lead to confusion, reputational damage, or potential phishing risks for users receiving modified notifications.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could potentially impact compliance with GDPR and HIPAA by allowing unauthorized modifications to booking notification emails, which may contain sensitive personal or health information. Unauthenticated access to modify such emails could lead to improper handling of protected data, violating confidentiality requirements under these regulations.

Mitigation Strategies

Update the eaSYNC Booking plugin to version 1.3.31 or later immediately. If updating is not possible, consider disabling the plugin temporarily until a patch is applied. Monitor email notifications and booking cancellation requests for suspicious activity.
