CWE ID Description
CWE-89 The product constructs all or part of an SQL command using externally-influenced input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special elements that could modify the intended SQL command when it is sent to a downstream component. Without sufficient removal or quoting of SQL syntax in user-controllable inputs, the generated SQL query can cause those inputs to be interpreted as SQL instead of ordinary user data.

Executive Summary

The Walletdoc Payment Gateway for WooCommerce plugin before version 1.8.5 has two critical flaws. First, it does not properly sanitize user input before using it in SQL queries, allowing attackers to inject malicious SQL commands. Second, it uses an empty default signing secret to verify payment webhooks, enabling attackers to forge payments by marking arbitrary orders as paid without authentication.

Detection Guidance

Check if the Walletdoc Payment Gateway for WooCommerce plugin is installed and verify its version. If it is below 1.8.5, the system is vulnerable. Look for unusual database queries or unauthorized order status changes in logs.

Impact Analysis

Unauthenticated attackers could exploit these flaws to steal sensitive data via SQL injection or manipulate order statuses to mark unpaid orders as paid. This could lead to financial losses, unauthorized transactions, and potential data breaches affecting customers and the business.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could lead to non-compliance with GDPR and HIPAA due to unauthorized data access or breaches. GDPR requires protecting personal data, while HIPAA mandates securing health-related information. Exploitation may result in legal penalties, fines, and reputational damage.

Mitigation Strategies

Update the Walletdoc Payment Gateway for WooCommerce plugin to version 1.8.5 or later immediately. Ensure the webhook signing secret is configured and not left empty to prevent payment forgery.
