Description

The Booking Package plugin for WordPress is vulnerable to authorization bypass in all versions up to, and including, 1.7.29 This is due to the plugin not properly verifying that a user is authorized to perform an action. This makes it possible for unauthenticated attackers to retrieve personally identifiable information for every booked customer stored in the booking_package_booked_customers table, including names, email addresses, phone numbers, physical addresses, and cancellation tokens. The nonce nominally protecting the endpoint is a public CSRF token emitted in the localized booking_package JavaScript object on any page rendering the [booking_package] shortcode or widget, making it trivially harvestable by unauthenticated visitors and providing no effective authentication barrier.

Executive Summary

This vulnerability is an authorization bypass in the Booking Package WordPress plugin up to version 1.7.29. It allows unauthenticated attackers to access personally identifiable information from the booking_package_booked_customers table, including names, emails, phone numbers, addresses, and cancellation tokens. The issue occurs because the plugin fails to properly verify user authorization for actions and uses a public CSRF token as a nonce, which is easily obtainable.

Detection Guidance

Check WordPress sites using the Booking Package plugin for unauthorized access to customer data. Inspect server logs for requests to endpoints handling booking data without proper authentication. Look for unusual queries to the booking_package_booked_customers table.

Impact Analysis

If you use this plugin, attackers could steal sensitive customer data such as names, contact details, and physical addresses. This could lead to privacy breaches, identity theft, or phishing attacks targeting your customers. The vulnerability requires no authentication, making it easy for attackers to exploit.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability likely violates GDPR due to unauthorized access to personal data and failure to protect user information. It may also breach HIPAA if the compromised data includes protected health information. Organizations using this plugin could face legal penalties, fines, and reputational damage for non-compliance.

Mitigation Strategies

Update the Booking Package plugin to the latest version if available. If not, disable the plugin immediately. Review all user roles and permissions to ensure no unauthorized access. Monitor for any suspicious activity or data exfiltration.
