Executive Summary

This is an out-of-bounds write vulnerability in Adobe Substance 3D Stager. It allows arbitrary code execution with the privileges of the current user by exploiting a flaw where the software writes data beyond allocated memory boundaries. Exploitation requires a victim to open a specially crafted malicious file.

Detection Guidance

Detection requires monitoring for suspicious file activity or crashes when opening files in Adobe Substance 3D Stager. Check logs for out-of-bounds write errors or unexpected application behavior after opening files from untrusted sources.

Impact Analysis

If exploited, this vulnerability could allow an attacker to run malicious code on your system, potentially leading to data theft, system damage, or unauthorized access. Since it requires user interaction, opening an untrusted file is the primary risk vector.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could lead to arbitrary code execution, potentially allowing unauthorized access to sensitive data. This may impact compliance with GDPR (data protection) and HIPAA (health information security) by increasing the risk of data breaches or unauthorized data exposure.

Mitigation Strategies

Avoid opening files from untrusted sources. Update Adobe Substance 3D Stager to the latest version if a patch is available. Use application whitelisting to restrict execution of Stager to trusted paths only.
