Description

The Booking for Appointments and Events Calendar – Amelia plugin for WordPress is vulnerable to Sensitive Information Exposure in all versions up to, and including, 2.4.12 via the 'page' parameter. This makes it possible for unauthenticated attackers to extract staff personally identifiable information β€” including full name, email address, phone number, gender, and timezone β€” as well as administrator-authored internal notes for every published event, all serialized into the JSON response because the raw providers array is never stripped before output.

Executive Summary

This vulnerability in the Amelia WordPress plugin allows unauthenticated attackers to access sensitive information through the 'page' parameter. It exposes staff personally identifiable data like full name, email, phone number, gender, and timezone, as well as internal notes for events, all serialized in JSON responses due to improper handling of the providers array.

Detection Guidance

Check WordPress sites running the Amelia plugin versions up to 2.4.12. Send a GET request to affected endpoints with the 'page' parameter to see if sensitive data like staff PII or internal notes is exposed in JSON responses.

Impact Analysis

Unauthenticated attackers can extract sensitive data, including staff contact details and internal notes, potentially leading to privacy breaches, targeted phishing attacks, or misuse of exposed information. The impact depends on the data stored in the plugin.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability likely violates GDPR and HIPAA due to unauthorized exposure of personally identifiable information and sensitive internal notes. Organizations using the plugin may face compliance violations, legal penalties, and reputational damage.

Mitigation Strategies

Update the Amelia plugin to the latest version beyond 2.4.12 immediately. If an update is unavailable, disable the plugin temporarily until a patch is released.
