Executive Summary

This vulnerability is an out-of-bounds read in the libosmocore library affecting the IuUP protocol. It occurs in the iuup_rx_initialization() function due to incomplete input validation of message buffers during initialization. The flaw allows a remote attacker to read sensitive memory contents by sending malformed packets.

Impact Analysis

This vulnerability could allow an attacker to obtain sensitive information from the affected system by exploiting the out-of-bounds read. It may lead to crashes, memory corruption, or unauthorized data exposure depending on the system's configuration and usage.

Mitigation Strategies

Update libosmocore to version 1.14.1 or later to apply the fix for the out-of-bounds read in iuup_rx_initialization(). The commit adds input validation to prevent malformed packets from causing memory corruption.
