Description

The Bit integrations – Form Integration, Webhook, Spreadsheets, CRM, LMS & Email Automation plugin for WordPress is vulnerable to Privilege Escalation via Log Re-execution in all versions up to, and including, 2.10.6 The vulnerability exists because `IntegrationHandler::executeWithCapture()` stores raw, attacker-controlled field values β€” including `user_pass` and `user_email` β€” verbatim into `wp_btcbi_log.field_data` on anonymous front-end requests with no capability check, and `LogHandler::reexecute()` feeds that stored payload back through `Flow::execute()` inside the replaying administrator's session without validating the identity that originally produced the data, causing `RegistrationController::updateUser()` to resolve the target user ID to the administrator and write the attacker-supplied password via `wp_update_user()`. This makes it possible for unauthenticated attackers to overwrite the administrator's password and fully take over the administrator account. Exploitation requires that an administrator has configured a flow mapping a user-supplied form field to the `user_pass` parameter of the WP User Registration "Update User" action, and that the administrator subsequently clicks "Re-execute" on the failure log row produced by the anonymous submission from the plugin's log screen.

Executive Summary

This vulnerability allows unauthenticated attackers to escalate privileges and take over a WordPress administrator account. It occurs in the Bit integrations plugin where attacker-controlled form data, including passwords, is stored in logs. When an admin re-executes a failed log entry, the plugin updates the admin's password with the attacker-supplied value, granting full control.

Detection Guidance

To detect this vulnerability, check WordPress sites running the Bit integrations plugin up to version 2.10.6 for unauthorized admin password changes or suspicious log entries. Review wp_btcbi_log entries for unexpected user_pass or user_email fields. Look for administrator sessions where flows were re-executed after anonymous form submissions.

Impact Analysis

If you use the vulnerable Bit integrations plugin, an attacker could gain full control of your WordPress site. This includes deleting content, installing malware, stealing data, or defacing the site. The attack requires an admin to have configured a specific flow mapping a form field to the user_pass parameter.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could lead to unauthorized access and data breaches, violating GDPR and HIPAA requirements for data protection and access control. A successful exploit may result in non-compliance, legal penalties, and reputational damage due to compromised sensitive data.

Mitigation Strategies

Immediately update the Bit integrations plugin to the latest version beyond 2.10.6. Disable any flows mapping user-supplied form fields to the user_pass parameter in the WP User Registration Update User action. Review logs for unauthorized administrator password changes or suspicious re-executions.
