Executive Summary

The Mang Board WordPress plugin has a stored cross-site scripting (XSS) vulnerability in versions up to 2.4.3. This flaw allows authenticated attackers with custom-level access or higher to inject malicious scripts via the 'content' parameter. The scripts execute when users view an affected page due to insufficient input sanitization and output escaping.

Detection Guidance

Check WordPress admin logs for unauthorized script injections in the 'content' parameter of Mang Board pages. Inspect page source for malicious scripts in stored posts. Use Wordfence or similar security plugins to scan for XSS vulnerabilities in the plugin.

Impact Analysis

This vulnerability allows attackers to steal user sessions, deface websites, or redirect users to malicious sites. It requires authentication but can affect all visitors to compromised pages. The impact includes potential data theft, unauthorized actions, and reputational damage.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could lead to non-compliance with GDPR or HIPAA by enabling unauthorized access to user data or session hijacking. Stored XSS may result in data breaches, violating confidentiality requirements. Organizations using the plugin must address this to maintain regulatory compliance.

Mitigation Strategies

Update Mang Board to the latest version (2.4.4 or higher) to patch the vulnerability. If immediate update is not possible, disable the plugin until patched. Review user roles with custom-level access and above for unauthorized changes.
