Description

The WooCommerce Extra Product Options Pro plugin for WordPress is vulnerable to Reflected Cross-Site Scripting via the '<fieldname>_start / <fieldname>_end' parameter in all versions up to, and including, 3.3.2 due to insufficient input sanitization and output escaping. This makes it possible for unauthenticated attackers to inject arbitrary web scripts in pages that execute if they can successfully trick a user into performing an action such as clicking on a link. This vulnerability is only exploitable on product pages where a Date & Time Range Picker extra field is configured, though the required field name is visible in the product page source and requires no prior knowledge to discover.

Executive Summary

This vulnerability is a Reflected Cross-Site Scripting (XSS) issue in the WooCommerce Extra Product Options Pro plugin for WordPress. It occurs due to insufficient input sanitization and output escaping in the '<fieldname>_start / <fieldname>_end' parameter. Attackers can inject malicious scripts into product pages where a Date & Time Range Picker extra field is configured. The attack requires tricking a user into clicking a link, but no prior knowledge is needed as the field name is visible in the product page source.

Detection Guidance

Check WordPress sites using the WooCommerce Extra Product Options Pro plugin for versions up to 3.3.2. Inspect product pages for Date & Time Range Picker fields and test the <fieldname>_start/<fieldname>_end parameters for reflected XSS payloads. Use tools like WPScan to scan for vulnerable installations.

Impact Analysis

Unauthenticated attackers could execute arbitrary web scripts in your browser if you visit a specially crafted link. This could lead to session hijacking, stealing cookies, or performing actions on your behalf. The impact is limited to product pages with configured Date & Time Range Picker fields, but the attack is possible without prior knowledge.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could potentially lead to unauthorized access to user data, which may violate GDPR (data protection) or HIPAA (healthcare data privacy) if exploited. Organizations using this plugin may face compliance risks due to potential data breaches or unauthorized script execution on user systems.

Mitigation Strategies

Update the WooCommerce Extra Product Options Pro plugin to the latest version beyond 3.3.2. If an update is unavailable, disable the plugin temporarily or remove Date & Time Range Picker fields from product pages. Monitor for suspicious activity and apply input sanitization patches if custom fixes are implemented.
