Description

Improper control of code generation in the agent import functionality of Amazon Bedrock AgentCore Starter Toolkit before 0.3.14 might allow an authenticated same-account actor to execute arbitrary code when a user imports and runs or deploys a Bedrock Agent, via crafted configuration values incorporated into generated Python source without safe literal encoding. To remediate this issue, users should upgrade to version 0.3.14. Because this issue persists into generated source, upgrading alone is not sufficient: agents imported with an affected version must be re-imported with version 0.3.14 or later and their local and deployed output artifacts replaced.

Executive Summary

This vulnerability involves improper control of code generation in Amazon Bedrock AgentCore Starter Toolkit before version 0.3.14. An authenticated same-account actor could exploit this to execute arbitrary code when a user imports and runs or deploys a Bedrock Agent. The issue arises from crafted configuration values being incorporated into generated Python source code without safe literal encoding.

Detection Guidance

This vulnerability involves improper code generation in Amazon Bedrock AgentCore Starter Toolkit. Detection requires checking the version of the toolkit in use and inspecting generated Python source files for unsafe literal encoding in configurations. No specific commands are provided in the context.

Impact Analysis

If exploited, this vulnerability could allow an attacker with same-account access to run malicious code on your system when you import or deploy a Bedrock Agent. This could lead to unauthorized access, data breaches, or system compromise. The impact includes high confidentiality, integrity, and availability risks as indicated by the CVSS scores.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could lead to data breaches or unauthorized access, which may violate compliance requirements under GDPR, HIPAA, or other regulations. Organizations using affected versions may face legal penalties, reputational damage, and increased scrutiny for failing to protect sensitive data.

Mitigation Strategies

Upgrade to version 0.3.14 or later of Amazon Bedrock AgentCore Starter Toolkit. Re-import affected agents with version 0.3.14 or later and replace all local and deployed output artifacts to ensure the vulnerability is fully remediated.
