Executive Summary

This vulnerability affects the BDM Digital Payment Gateway WordPress plugin versions 1.2.7 to 1.3.12. It allows unauthenticated attackers to forge payment confirmations by exploiting a public payment-status update route that does not verify credentials. The plugin treats unset credentials as valid, enabling attackers to mark arbitrary WooCommerce orders as paid without actual payment.

Detection Guidance

Check if the BDM Digital Payment Gateway WordPress plugin version is between 1.2.7 and 1.3.12. Inspect the plugin's public payment-status update route for credential verification. Use WPScan to detect vulnerable versions: wpscan --url <your-site-url> --enumerate vp,vt.

Impact Analysis

This vulnerability allows attackers to trick the system into marking orders as paid without real transactions. This could lead to financial losses for merchants, as unpaid orders are treated as completed. It may also disrupt order management and customer trust.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could lead to unauthorized transactions being marked as paid, potentially violating financial record integrity requirements under GDPR and HIPAA. Unauthorized order confirmations may result in improper data handling and financial misreporting, posing compliance risks for organizations processing payments.

Mitigation Strategies

Immediately update the BDM Digital Payment Gateway plugin to the latest version if available. If no update exists, consider disabling the plugin until a patch is released. Monitor WooCommerce orders for unauthorized status changes to paid.
