Executive Summary

The Spin Wheel WordPress plugin before version 2.2.1 has a vulnerability where it does not check if a user actually performed a legitimate spin before allowing them to access or use a prize coupon. This lets unauthenticated users view and drain all stored coupon codes, including those from unpublished campaigns.

Detection Guidance

Check if the Spin Wheel WordPress plugin version is below 2.2.1. Inspect network traffic for unauthenticated requests attempting to access or consume coupon codes without performing a legitimate spin.

Impact Analysis

Unauthenticated attackers could exploit this to steal all coupon codes, including unpublished ones, potentially leading to unauthorized prize claims or exposing sensitive campaign data. This could disrupt promotions and damage user trust.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could potentially impact compliance with GDPR and HIPAA by exposing coupon codes that may contain sensitive user data or promotional information. Unauthorized access to unpublished campaigns might lead to unintended data disclosure, violating confidentiality requirements under these regulations.

Mitigation Strategies

Update the Spin Wheel plugin to version 2.2.1 or later immediately. If updating is not possible, consider disabling the plugin until the update is applied.
