Executive Summary

This vulnerability involves a missing authorization check in Google Chrome before version 155.0.8059.39. A remote attacker who already compromised the renderer process could exploit this to execute arbitrary code outside the sandbox by tricking a user into visiting a specially crafted HTML page.

Detection Guidance

This vulnerability involves a missing authorization issue in Google Chrome's renderer process. Detection primarily requires checking the Chrome version and monitoring for suspicious renderer process activity. Use the command 'google-chrome --version' to check the installed version. If the version is below 155.0.8059.39, the system is vulnerable. Additionally, monitor for unexpected renderer process behavior or crashes that may indicate exploitation.

Impact Analysis

If exploited, this vulnerability could allow an attacker to run malicious code on your system, potentially stealing data, installing malware, or taking control of your device. It requires the attacker to first compromise the browser's renderer process, which is a significant hurdle.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability allows a remote attacker to execute arbitrary code outside the sandbox via a crafted HTML page, which could lead to unauthorized data access or modification. This may impact compliance with GDPR (data protection) and HIPAA (health data security) by enabling breaches of confidentiality or integrity of sensitive information.

Mitigation Strategies

Update Google Chrome to version 155.0.8059.39 or later to address the missing authorization vulnerability in the renderer process.
