Executive Summary

This is a buffer overflow vulnerability in ANGLE, a graphics library used by Google Chrome. It allows a remote attacker who has already compromised the renderer process to execute arbitrary code outside Chrome's sandbox by tricking a user into visiting a specially crafted HTML page.

Detection Guidance

This vulnerability is specific to Google Chrome versions prior to 155.0.8059.39. Detection involves checking the installed Chrome version. On Windows, run: wmic product where name='Google Chrome' get version. On Linux, run: google-chrome --version. Compare the version against 155.0.8059.39.

Impact Analysis

If exploited, this vulnerability could allow an attacker to run malicious code on your system, potentially stealing data, installing malware, or taking control of your computer. Since it bypasses Chrome's sandbox, it increases the risk of serious damage.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability involves a buffer overflow in Google Chrome's ANGLE component, allowing remote code execution via a crafted HTML page. Such vulnerabilities can potentially lead to unauthorized data access or exfiltration, which may violate GDPR's data protection requirements or HIPAA's safeguards for protected health information.

Mitigation Strategies

Update Google Chrome to version 155.0.8059.39 or later immediately. Disable automatic updates temporarily if needed, but prioritize patching. Avoid visiting untrusted websites until updated. Consider using alternative browsers if Chrome cannot be updated promptly.
