Executive Summary

This is a race condition vulnerability in Google Chrome's CacheStorage. A race condition occurs when the program's behavior depends on the sequence or timing of uncontrollable events. In this case, it allows an attacker who has compromised the renderer process to read memory outside the sandbox by exploiting a timing issue in the cache storage system.

Detection Guidance

This vulnerability is specific to Google Chrome versions prior to 155.0.8059.39. To detect it, check your Chrome version by running chrome://version/ in the browser. If your version is below 155.0.8059.39, the system is vulnerable.

Impact Analysis

If you are a Chrome user, this vulnerability could allow an attacker to access sensitive data in memory that should be protected by the sandbox. This could lead to unauthorized access to private information, such as passwords or personal data, if the attacker successfully exploits the race condition.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could potentially lead to data breaches, which may violate compliance requirements under GDPR, HIPAA, or other regulations. Unauthorized access to personal or health data could result in legal penalties, reputational damage, and loss of trust.

Mitigation Strategies

Update Google Chrome to version 155.0.8059.39 or later to address the race condition in CacheStorage.
