Description

The GeoDirectory – WP Business Directory Plugin and Classified Listings Directory plugin for WordPress is vulnerable to Stored Cross-Site Scripting via the 'post_title' parameter in all versions up to, and including, 2.8.190 due to insufficient input sanitization and output escaping. Executive Summary

This vulnerability is a Stored Cross-Site Scripting (XSS) flaw in the GeoDirectory WordPress plugin. It allows authenticated attackers with subscriber-level access or higher to inject malicious scripts via the 'post_title' parameter. The issue arises due to insufficient input sanitization and output escaping in versions up to 2.8.190.

Detection Guidance

Check WordPress installations for the GeoDirectory plugin versions up to 2.8.190. Inspect pages or posts for unusual scripts in the post_title parameter. Use security plugins like Wordfence to scan for stored XSS vulnerabilities.

Impact Analysis

An attacker could inject scripts that execute when users access infected pages. This may lead to theft of cookies, session tokens, or other sensitive data. It could also allow unauthorized actions on behalf of users or defacement of the website.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could lead to unauthorized access to user data, violating GDPR's data protection principles and HIPAA's security requirements. It may result in data breaches, leading to legal penalties, reputational damage, and loss of trust.

Mitigation Strategies

Update the GeoDirectory plugin to the latest version beyond 2.8.190. Remove or sanitize any injected scripts in posts or pages. Restrict subscriber-level access to prevent unauthorized modifications.
