Description

The GeoDirectory – WP Business Directory Plugin and Classified Listings Directory plugin for WordPress is vulnerable to Stored Cross-Site Scripting via the 'post_images (file_info[2] = title)' parameter in all versions up to, and including, 2.8.190 due to insufficient input sanitization and output escaping. This makes it possible for authenticated attackers, with subscriber-level access and above, to inject arbitrary web scripts in pages that will execute whenever a user accesses an injected page.

Executive Summary

This vulnerability is a Stored Cross-Site Scripting (XSS) issue in the GeoDirectory WordPress plugin. It allows authenticated attackers with subscriber-level access or higher to inject malicious scripts via the 'post_images' parameter due to insufficient input sanitization and output escaping. The injected scripts execute when users access compromised pages.

Detection Guidance

To detect this vulnerability, inspect WordPress sites using the GeoDirectory plugin for suspicious JavaScript in the 'post_images' parameter. Check for unauthorized script injections in page content, especially those targeting subscriber-level access. Review plugin files like add-listing.min.js and geodirectory-plupload.js for obfuscation or unusual code patterns.

Impact Analysis

An attacker could steal user sessions, redirect users to malicious sites, or perform actions on their behalf. It may also lead to defacement of your website or unauthorized data access if combined with other vulnerabilities.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could lead to data breaches, exposing user data. For GDPR, it may result in non-compliance due to unauthorized data access. For HIPAA, it could compromise protected health information if exploited.

Mitigation Strategies

Update the GeoDirectory – WP Business Directory Plugin to the latest version beyond 2.8.190 to patch the vulnerability. Remove unnecessary user roles with subscriber-level access or higher to limit attack surface. Monitor for unusual script injections in page content.
