Executive Summary

The MAS Videos WordPress plugin through version 1.3.4 has a vulnerability where it does not check user capabilities or ownership before deleting content. The plugin uses a static nonce for verification, allowing any authenticated user with minimal privileges to delete posts, pages, attachments, or other content belonging to other users.

Detection Guidance

Check if the MAS Videos WordPress plugin version 1.3.4 or earlier is installed. Look for unauthorized deletions of posts, pages, or attachments by low-privilege users like subscribers. Review server logs for suspicious deletion requests.

Impact Analysis

This vulnerability allows attackers with basic user access to permanently delete important content like posts, pages, or media files owned by other users. It can lead to data loss, disruption of services, and unauthorized content removal without proper authorization.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could violate compliance requirements under GDPR and HIPAA by enabling unauthorized data deletion, potentially leading to loss of protected or sensitive information. It undermines access control measures required by these regulations.

Mitigation Strategies

Update the MAS Videos plugin to the latest version if available. Temporarily disable the plugin until a patch is released. Restrict user roles to prevent low-privilege users from performing deletions. Monitor content for unauthorized changes.
