BigFix Platform Trusted Compromised Certificate Validation Flaw

Vulnerability report for CVE-2026-108013, including description, CVSS score, EPSS score, affected products, exploitability, helpful resources, and attack-flow context.

Publication date: 2026-10-24

Last updated on: 2026-10-24

Assigner: HCL Software

Description

BigFix Platform uses Mozilla CA certificate bundle (PEM). Versions of the bundle dated before 2026/10/20 still trust certificates whose private keys have been compromised. When BigFix Platform validates servers using such a bundle, an on-path attacker can impersonate remote servers and tamper with files downloaded by the application. The issue is resolved by using bundle version 2026/10/20 or later. The fixed bundle is available starting from BES Support v1520.

Executive Summary

BigFix Platform uses an outdated Mozilla CA certificate bundle that trusts compromised certificates. This allows attackers to impersonate servers and tamper with downloaded files. The issue is fixed by updating to bundle version 2026/10/20 or later.

Detection Guidance

To detect this vulnerability, check the version of the Mozilla CA certificate bundle used by BigFix Platform. Compare the bundle date against 2026/10/20. If the bundle is older, the system is vulnerable. Use commands like 'ls -l' to inspect file versions or check BigFix console logs for certificate validation errors.

Impact Analysis

An attacker could intercept communications, steal sensitive data, or modify files during transmission. Users relying on BigFix Platform for secure updates or configurations face potential data breaches or system compromise.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could lead to unauthorized access to sensitive data, violating GDPR's integrity and confidentiality requirements or HIPAA's safeguards for protected health information. Non-compliance risks fines and legal consequences.

Mitigation Strategies

Upgrade to BES Support v1520 or later to obtain the fixed bundle version 2026/10/20 or newer. Ensure all BigFix Platform components are updated to prevent server impersonation and file tampering risks.
