Description

Incorrect authentication vulnerability in the TSplus Remote Access multi-factor authentication (MFA) mechanism. A remote attacker authenticated with valid first-factor credentials could bypass the second-factor verification because the authentication flow does not correctly apply the MFA validation result, allowing the attacker to complete the login without a valid second-factor token and gain access to protected applications and resources.

Executive Summary

This is an incorrect authentication vulnerability in the TSplus Remote Access multi-factor authentication (MFA) mechanism. A remote attacker with valid first-factor credentials can bypass the second-factor verification because the authentication flow does not correctly apply the MFA validation result. This allows the attacker to complete login without a valid second-factor token and gain access to protected applications and resources.

Detection Guidance

To detect this vulnerability, check if your TSplus Remote Access version is 19.20.3.10 or earlier. Verify if the /socket.io/JWN/ endpoint is accessible without proper authentication. Use network scanning tools like curl to test access to internal resources via this endpoint.

Impact Analysis

An attacker could exploit this to bypass MFA and gain unauthorized access to sensitive applications and data, potentially leading to data breaches, unauthorized system control, or further network compromise. The high CVSS score (8.7) indicates significant risk.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could lead to unauthorized access to personal or sensitive data, violating GDPR (data protection) and HIPAA (health information privacy) requirements. Organizations may face compliance penalties, legal liabilities, and reputational damage if exploited.

Mitigation Strategies

Update TSplus Remote Access to the latest version to address the authentication bypass flaw. Verify that MFA is properly enforced and test authentication flows to ensure second-factor validation works correctly.
