Description

The easy.jobs – AI powered Job Listing, Job Board, Career Page, Recruitment & Hiring Solution plugin for WordPress is vulnerable to Authenticated (Contributor+) Stored Cross-Site Scripting via the 'icon' attribute of the easyjobs/job-list Gutenberg block in all versions up to, and including, 2.8.2 due to insufficient input sanitization and output escaping on user supplied attributes. This makes it possible for authenticated attackers, with contributor-level access and above, to inject arbitrary web scripts in pages that will execute whenever a user accesses an injected page.

Executive Summary

This vulnerability is a Stored Cross-Site Scripting (XSS) flaw in the easy.jobs WordPress plugin. It allows authenticated users with Contributor-level access or higher to inject malicious scripts via the 'icon' attribute of a Gutenberg block. The issue arises from insufficient input sanitization and output escaping, enabling script execution when users view infected pages.

Detection Guidance

To detect this vulnerability, inspect WordPress sites using the easy.jobs plugin for versions up to 2.8.2. Check Gutenberg blocks for the easyjobs/job-list component and review the 'icon' attribute for unsanitized user input. Use WordPress admin panel or database queries to identify contributors with access.

Impact Analysis

An attacker could steal user sessions, redirect visitors to malicious sites, or deface your website. Since it requires only Contributor access, it lowers the barrier for compromise compared to higher-privilege exploits. The stored nature means the attack persists until manually removed.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could lead to unauthorized data access or modification, violating GDPR's integrity and confidentiality principles. For HIPAA, it may expose protected health information if exploited. Both standards require safeguards against such attacks to maintain compliance.

Mitigation Strategies

Update the easy.jobs plugin to the latest version beyond 2.8.2 immediately. Remove or restrict contributor-level access to untrusted users. Scan WordPress installations for malicious scripts in the 'icon' attribute of easyjobs/job-list blocks. Consider using security plugins to monitor for stored XSS attempts.
