Executive Summary

This is an Insecure Direct Object Reference (IDOR) vulnerability in the Wallet System for WooCommerce plugin before version 2.8.2. It allows authenticated users with low privileges, like Subscribers or Customers, to overwrite KYC documents and verification status of any other user, including administrators. The flaw occurs because the plugin's KYC document handler does not verify ownership or user capabilities and instead uses a client-supplied user ID from the request.

Detection Guidance

Check the installed version of the Wallet System for WooCommerce plugin. If it is below 2.8.2, the system is vulnerable. Use commands like 'wp plugin list' in WordPress or inspect the plugin files directly.

Impact Analysis

An attacker with minimal access could manipulate KYC documents and verification status of other users, including administrators. This could lead to unauthorized changes in user accounts, potential fraud, or bypassing verification processes. The impact includes compromised user trust and potential misuse of the system.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could violate compliance requirements by allowing unauthorized modifications to user data, which may breach GDPR's data integrity principles or HIPAA's access controls. It undermines data protection measures and could lead to regulatory penalties due to unauthorized access or tampering with sensitive information.

Mitigation Strategies

Update the Wallet System for WooCommerce plugin to version 2.8.2 or later immediately. Remove or disable the plugin if an update is not possible. Review user permissions to ensure no unauthorized access has occurred.
