Description

The Tour Booking Manager plugin for WordPress is vulnerable to Stored Cross-Site Scripting via the 'width', 'height' and 'zoom' shortcode attributes of the [ttbm-hotel-map] shortcode in versions up to, and including, 2.3.6 This is due to insufficient input sanitization and output escaping on user supplied attributes in the ttbm_hotel_map_shortcode() function, which concatenates the raw attribute values into double-quoted HTML attributes of an <iframe> tag. This makes it possible for authenticated attackers, with contributor-level access and above, to inject arbitrary web scripts in pages that will execute whenever a user accesses an injected page.

Executive Summary

This is a stored cross-site scripting (XSS) vulnerability in the WordPress plugin 'Travelly – Tour & Travel Booking Manager for WooCommerce'. It affects the [ttbm-hotel-map] shortcode in versions up to 2.3.6. The issue occurs because user-supplied attributes like width, height, and zoom are not properly sanitized or escaped before being used in an iframe tag's HTML attributes. This allows authenticated attackers with contributor-level access or higher to inject malicious scripts that execute when users view the affected pages.

The vulnerability was fixed in version 2.3.7 by enforcing stricter validation for these attributes.

Detection Guidance

Check if the Travelly plugin version is below 2.3.7. Use WordPress admin to inspect installed plugins or run: wp plugin list --name=travelly. Search for the [ttbm-hotel-map] shortcode usage in posts or pages.

Impact Analysis

If you are a user of the affected plugin, attackers could inject malicious scripts into your website. These scripts could steal user sessions, redirect visitors to malicious sites, or perform actions on behalf of users. If you are an administrator, your site could be compromised, leading to data breaches or further attacks.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could lead to unauthorized access to user data, which may violate GDPR's data protection requirements or HIPAA's safeguards for protected health information. If exploited, it could result in data breaches, leading to potential fines or penalties under these regulations.

Mitigation Strategies

Update the Travelly plugin to version 2.3.7 or later immediately. Remove or disable the [ttbm-hotel-map] shortcode if not needed. Review user roles with contributor access and above for unauthorized changes.
