CWE ID Description
CWE-89 The product constructs all or part of an SQL command using externally-influenced input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special elements that could modify the intended SQL command when it is sent to a downstream component. Without sufficient removal or quoting of SQL syntax in user-controllable inputs, the generated SQL query can cause those inputs to be interpreted as SQL instead of ordinary user data.

Executive Summary

This vulnerability is a SQL injection flaw in the Online Exam System 1.0. It exists in the loginExe.php file of the adminpanel component. Attackers can manipulate the username and password arguments to inject malicious SQL code, allowing unauthorized access to the database.

Detection Guidance

To detect SQL injection vulnerabilities in the Online Exam System, inspect network traffic for suspicious login attempts targeting adminpanel/admin/query/loginExe.php. Look for repeated failed login attempts or unusual input patterns like quotes or SQL keywords in username/password fields. Use tools like sqlmap to test for SQLi by sending crafted payloads.

Impact Analysis

An attacker could exploit this to bypass authentication, steal sensitive data like user credentials or exam results, modify or delete database records, or gain full control of the system remotely.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could lead to unauthorized access to personal data, violating GDPR and HIPAA requirements for data protection and confidentiality. Organizations may face legal penalties, reputational damage, and loss of trust.

Mitigation Strategies

Immediately update the Online Exam System to the latest patched version. If no patch exists, disable the vulnerable loginExe.php endpoint or restrict access via firewall rules. Implement input validation for username/password fields to block special characters. Monitor database logs for unusual queries.
